At Highland Wildlife Park, completion of a much-needed new breeding facility can’t come soon enough as the Pine Hoverfly Conservation Project’s efforts yield a sharp increase in the captive population. Keeping track of genetic diversity amongst these tiny creatures involves a complicated process which tests the patience of their dedicated keepers.
In Edinburgh, a conservation project involving the humble partula snail is also enjoying great success, which means counting, cleaning and feeding thousands of the little molluscs on a regular basis – a job done with great enthusiasm by keeper Gareth.
And the departure from Edinburgh Zoo of feisty vulturine guinea fowl Phillip proves to be surprisingly poignant for senior keeper Karen.
Narrated by Gail Porter.
