A spiritual comment and prayer to begin the day with Jaspreet Kaur

A spiritual comment and prayer to begin the day with Jaspreet Kaur

Good morning.

With only a few weeks left to go until the festive season, I鈥檓 sure many of us are asking or being asked 鈥渨hat would you like for Christmas鈥!

However, a friend of mine recently popped a message in our group chat saying she really didn鈥檛 need anything this year at all. Others shared links to sustainable brands, jewellery made from recycled materials, brands that donate to charity and others that seek to minimise waste. It鈥檚 the first year my friends and I have wanted to make more conscious and sustainable gift choices.

In the Sikh faith, the second Guru, Guru Angad Devi Ji, wrote in the Guru Grant Sahib that 鈥渢he mouth is not satisfied by speaking, and the ears are not content by hearing. The eyes are not fulfilled by seeing.鈥 We鈥檙e always wanting more and never feel like we have enough.

It reminded me of a beautiful Spanish word I鈥檇 learnt a few years earlier on my travels. A word that inspired this poem;

Aprovachar

It means to use something wisely,
To take the opportunity,
To take advantage of 鈥
Getting full value from life.
鈥淚 am satisfied. 鈥
Enjoying all the good that each moment and each thing has to offer.

Dear God, thank you for the blessings you have bestowed on my life and for providing me with all I need. Please guide me in making more conscious and sustainable choices for our earth and generations to come.
