Seonaid Aitken explores the rich landscape of today鈥檚 international jazz scene, featuring artists fusing jazz with influences from other musical forms and cultures to create new expressions in sound. Expect to hear the joyous multi-cultural rhythms of Indian composer Purbayan Chaterjee鈥檚 new work Abaad ; the lush orchestral arrangements of Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen, Swiss guitarist Nicolas Meier shares his love of Turkish, Eastern & Middle Eastern music, and bathe in the lyrical playing of pianist Zoe Rahman as she explores her Bengali roots. Tonight鈥檚 special session guest hails from the Shetlands, Norman Willmore weaves jazz and folk forms into his music, and is joined for this performance by a stellar line-up featuring Fergus McCreadie (piano), Brodie Jarvie (double bass) and Stephen Henderson (drums). Plus Richard Michael looks at the traditional song 鈥榃aly, Waly (The Water Is Wide) as part of tonight鈥檚 Song Book taking in versions by Oregon, Barbara Dickson and Charles Lloyd.
