The Vienna Philharmonic is conducted by 94-year-old Herbert Blomstedt in Honegger's Symphonie Liturgique and Brahms's Fourth Symphony.

The legendary orchestra is conducted in Salzburg's Festpielhaus by the eminent 94-year-old Herbert Blomstedt in two works particularly close to his heart. Written in the aftermath of the Second World War and with movements titles taken from the Roman Catholic Mass and the Psalms, Honegger wrote of his Symphonie Liturgique that: "It is a drama in which three characters 鈥� real or symbolic 鈥� play: misery, happiness and man. It is an eternal problem. I have tried to face it anew.鈥�
