A report says the Government鈥檚 plans for using tree planting and soil to capture carbon are at risk of failure.
A report says the Government鈥檚 plans for using tree planting and soil to capture carbon are at severe risk of failure. The House of Lords' Science and Technology Committee says farmers need more support to provide solutions like peatland restoration and improving habitats which could help the Government reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
We鈥檙e discussing food labelling all this week on the programme and it鈥檚 definitely touched a nerve. But in spite of all of the correspondence from Farming Today listeners, it seems most people don鈥檛 actually pay much attention to what鈥檚 on the label.
Farming nowadays, as we often report, is a hi-tech business, relying on satellite precision, detailed data analysis and some big machinery that would set you back the price of a small house in some towns. But a hundred years ago, your most important piece of farm kit was a good strong horse or two. Horse handling skills in farming are understandably on the wain, but there鈥檚 a still a dedicated group of enthusiasts who enjoy nothing better than working with heavy horses.
