Read for Good

Reading is nothing short of life-changing. Children and young people who love reading are more likely to do well in school, secure good jobs, and enjoy positive well-being throughout their lives. There is no better way to find joy, comfort and escape, especially in difficult times. Yet in 2020 nearly a quarter of the UK’s under 18s never or rarely read for pleasure. Read for Good works in hospitals and schools across the UK to help all children to love reading.

William’s story

William’s story
When William learnt he had cancer at age 13, Read for Good’s books and storyteller visits helped him to cope emotionally with the diagnosis and hospital treatment, and continue to support his mental health and disrupted schooling through the pandemic.

Supporting children in hospital

Supporting children in hospital
Every year, Read for Good provides 27,000 carefully chosen new books and regular professional storytelling sessions to the UK’s 30 children’s hospitals. Every day, our books and stories support the education and well-being of seriously ill children.

How you can help

How you can help
£45 could give a seriously ill child in hospital the magic of new books and professional storytelling (in-person or virtual) during a month’s stay. Donate now to double your impact.*
*Up to £15,000 will be match-funded by a generous donor.
