25/02/22 Ukraine War; Storm Damage; Flooding

War in Ukraine and its long term global consequences. A hundred days since Storm Arwen, the clear up continues. Living in the floodplain.

The war in Ukraine is having a big impact on global commodities. Grain prices are up, as are the price of oilseeds and fuel in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russia and Ukraine provide about a third of the world鈥檚 wheat exports and 15% of global vegetable oil, as well as being important fertiliser producers. We speak to a global analyst about how the conflict is affecting world markets.

Amid all the latest storms it's easy to forget last year鈥檚, but the clear-up from Storm Arwen three months ago continues, not least in the forests and woodlands of north east England where foresters have the mammoth task of clearing hundreds of miles of public footpaths.

As people along the River Severn brace themselves for more flooding, we speak to the farmers and rural communities who have adapted to life in the flood plain.
