Robert Glasper Interview
Jamie is joined by the Grammy award-winning pianist, composer and producer Robert Glasper to talk about his musical journey and new album Black Radio 3
Jamie’s guest this week is the multiple Grammy award-winning pianist, composer and producer Robert Glasper.
Robert’s unique approach to the instrument and style of playing, inspired by his roots in gospel and RnB, has had a great impact on modern jazz over the past two decades. Starting his career helming a jazz trio, he had major success with 2012 album Black Radio – which saw him blend more hip-hop and neo-soul influences into his music, whilst featuring singers and rappers like Erykah Badu and Yasiin Bey.
After a decade in which he’s toured the world, scored films and released many acclaimed records, he’s continuing the series with new album Black Radio 3 – partnering up with the likes of Gregory Porter, Q-Tip and Esperanza Spalding.
Robert talks to Jamie about how the Black Radio series came about in the first place, being inspired to push genre boundaries by Roy Hargrove and the joys of hanging out with Herbie Hancock.
