Banquet Special
It’s the final, with the chefs cooking their banquet dishes at Alexandra Palace for a guest list of broadcasting stars. Who will be voted Champion of Champions?
It’s the final, where the overall winner of Great British Menu 2022 will be decided. Over nine weeks, 32 of the best chefs from across Great Britain have been competing for the renowned title of Champion of Champions with menus celebrating 100 years of British heritage in broadcasting. Now it’s the banquet, where the overall winner will be voted for by an illustrious array of famous guests at London’s Alexandra Palace – the historical home of British broadcasting.
The judges, chef Tom Kerridge, restaurateur Nisha Katona and food podcaster and comedian Ed Gamble, have chosen four chefs, each from a different British region or nation, to create a banquet celebrating 100 years of British broadcasting.
Presenter Andi Oliver will show the chefs around the banquet location of Alexandra Palace. Known as the People’s Palace, it was here that the ´óÏó´«Ã½ led the world into the golden age of television when it transmitted the first high-definition public television service in 1936. But with a three-minute walk upstairs from the preparation kitchen to the service kitchen, it’s a challenging location to serve food.
Adding to the kitchen difficulties we’ve got one of the toughest crowds they’ll ever cook for. The guest list reads like a who’s who of broadcasting, including Floella Benjamin, Les Dennis, Anita Dobson, Brian May, Mary Berry, Prue Leith, the Hairy Bikers, Cherry Healy, Julia Bradbury, Alison Steadman, Julia Sawalha, Clive Myrie, Kirsty Wark, James Acaster, Steven Moffat, Sue Vertue, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith.
The chefs need to impress with every dish, as it’s the guests who choose the ultimate winner.
