Handel's Alcina

Handel鈥檚 spellbinding opera featuring the enchantress and sorceress Alcina. Starring soprano M谩ire Flavin, Opera North's new production is directed by Tim Albery.

Laurence Cummings conducts Handel鈥檚 spellbinding opera, Alcina. Starring soprano, M谩ire Flavin in the title role with countertenor, Patrick Terry as Ruggiero; mezzo-soprano, Mari Askvik as Bradamante; and soprano, Fflur Wyn as Morgana. Opera North's new production is directed by Tim Albery and Laurence Cummings conducts the Orchestra of Opera North.

Alcina is an enchantress who transforms her discarded lovers into non-human form. Her island is a barren wasteland and its beauty is maintained only by Alcina's powers of illusion. When Bradamante arrives on the island in disguise, she is intent on reclaiming her fianc茅, Ruggiero, and Alcina鈥檚 magic is tested to breaking point.
