Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra

Joseph Bastian conducts the Prague RSO in Prokofiev Symphonies Nos 1 and 4. Gabriela Montero joins them for Mozart's Piano Concerto No 14 and Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No 1.

Acclaimed Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra artist-in-residence, performs Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 14, and teams up with the Prague RSO's principal trumpet Ji艡铆 Houdek for Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1. Prokofiev bookends the concert, beginning with his witty nod to Haydn in his 'Classical' Symphony and ending with the original version of his Symphony No. 4. Based on music from his ballet The Prodigal Son, the symphony is a characteristic combination of the mechanical and hard-edged, and the warmly lyrical.

Recorded in February at the acoustically renowned Dvo艡谩k Hall in the Rudolfinum, Prague, and introduced by Fiona Talkington.
