Classical music mix inspired by Vaughan Williams
An eclectic mix featuring classical music inspired by Ralph Vaughan Williams's setting of Shakespeare's words from The Merchant of Venice: Serenade to Music.
As part of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3's Vaughan Williams's 150th anniversary celebration, the In Tune Mixtape begins with one of the composer's best loved works, then embarks on a journey of music inspired by it in different ways. Serenade to Music is a setting of Shakespeare's words from The Merchant of Venice, famously scored for 16 solo singers and orchestra. There follows music by Henry Purcell, Frank Bridge, William Walton, Glenn Miller, John Dankworth and Jocelyn Pook, catching the thematic threads of moonlight, serenades, music's transcendent beauty, and Shakespeare, and weaving them into an eclectic half hour mix.
