PopMaster and David Rodigan
David Rodigan - DJ and champion for reggae music globally - chooses the Tracks of My Years. There's the daily love song plus another round of PopMaster.'
David Rodigan, award-winning DJ and champion for reggae music globally, chooses the Tracks of My Years. Born in Germany, David's passion for Jamaican music started whilst watching Millie Small perform her 1964 hit 'My Boy Lollipop' on the Ready Steady Go! TV show as a schoolboy. By the age of 15 he was DJing at school dances and youth clubs.
In June, together with The Outlook Orchestra, he is headlining an all-star reggae line-up at London's Kenwood House for an outdoor concert called Reggae on the Heath. The English Heritage site is playing host to legends such as Bitty Mclean and Jamaican superstar Freddie McGregor, supported by live acts and DJ's right across the genre.
David was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to broadcasting in 2012. He was winner of the Best Specialist Music Programme at the Sony Radio Awards the same year for his Radio 2 show and in 2020 was awarded an Order Of Distinction by the Jamaican Government for his global promotion of Jamaican music. He has hosted a two-hour Sunday evening show on 大象传媒 Radio 1Xtra since February 2013.
The next two tracks David has chosen come from David Bowie and Bob Marley. Ken also has the daily love song, record and album of the week plus PopMaster. If you'd like to get in touch with the show email Ken.Bruce@bbc.co.uk
