Episode 17
Carole and Brian engage in some friendly competition as they grow heritage and contemporary vegetables to see which varieties come out top of the crops.
Beechgrove鈥檚 Brian and Carole decided to grow and compare a range of heritage vegetables alongside their nearest contemporary cousins. While contemporary varieties are usually more disease resistant and uniform, heritage varieties often have more character and allow seed to be taken so they can be grown again the following year.
In a bid to shine more light on the quality and benefits of the varieties, Carole and Brian split Beechgrove's vegetable patch in half with Carole growing all new varieties on one side, and Brian growing the traditional/heritage varieties on the other.
Throughout the growing season, Carole and Brian return to the patch, giving hints and tips on the best way to grow the veg and updating us on the veg to see whether it's heritage or contemporary vegetable varieties that will come out top of the crops.
