14/06/2022 - The National Food Strategy and salmon farming

What does the government's National Food Strategy mean for farmers and domestic food production?

The government鈥檚 White paper in response to The National Food Strategy, which it commissioned three years ago, has been criticised as lacking long-term planning. One of the main focuses is increasing domestic food production but with issues such as labour shortages and increased costs of production, this could be a challenge.

This week we鈥檙e focusing on salmon - both farmed and wild. Catches of Scottish wild salmon are at a record low, due to rising ocean temperatures, pollution and fish farming. We also hear about a project hoping to revitalise one of the most important salmon rivers in the West Highlands.
