Tom McKinney introduces a concert from the Snape Maltings given as part of this year's Aldeburgh Festival featuring the CBSO performing music by Benjamin Britten and Shostakovich - his First Violin Concerto, performed by Patricia Kopatchinskaja. David Oistrakh, its dedicatee, likened the violin part to "a pithy Shakespearian role". The concert also features a new work by the Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir.
