Singer Betty Boo chooses the Tracks of My Years all week with Gary.
Betty is a Brit and Ivor Novello Award-winning singer/songwriter/producer from west London, and rose to fame after a chance meeting in McDonalds with Public Enemy, who she ended up supporting on tour in the US.
In 1989, she featured as guest vocalist on The Beatmasters鈥� Top 10 single 'Hey DJ/I Can't Dance'. Her first solo single - 'Doin鈥� The Do' - was released the following year and announced Betty Boo as a phenomenon in her own right. 'Doin鈥� The Do' and the follow up 'Where Are You Baby?' were both written and demoed by Betty Boo in her bedroom using basic sampling gear - a process she would return to in recent years after a period of writer鈥檚 block.
Betty released two albums - 'Boomania' and 'GRRR! It鈥檚 Betty Boo' - and then mostly retired from the public eye. But then earlier this year, she released the Human League-sampling banger 'Get Me To The Weekend' - her first solo music in three decades.
In August Betty releases her new single 'Right By Your Side', a duet with multiple Brit Award nominated singer-songwriter David Gray. This is the third single released by Betty Boo in 2022, and a new album is due for release later this year.
The first two tracks Betty Boo has chosen come from Madness and The Police.
