Quatuor Mosa茂ques
Period instrument string quartet, the Quatuor Mosa茂ques, perform the final works for string quartet by Mozart and Beethoven at the Queen's Hall in Edinburgh at the 1999 festival.
Pioneers of the period instrument string quartet, the Quatuor Mosa茂ques, appeared at the Queen's Hall in 1999 as part of the Festival's rich chamber music series.
The concert begins with an early work by the teenage Mozart dating from his visit to Milan followed by the final quartets ever written by Beethoven and Mozart respectively. Written a year before his death, Beethoven's quartet Op 135 is surprisingly bright and congenial but with the subtlety of great experience and Mozart's late F major quartet features a prominent cello part dedicated to the cello-playing King Frederick William II of Prussia.
