Summer Showcase (8/8)

New Generation Artists Summer Showcase: Alexander Gadjiev plays Chopin on the composer's own Pleyel piano of 1848, and Timothy Ridout performs Stravinsky's Suite italienne.

New Generation Artists Summer Showcase: Kate Molleson presents the last programme in her summer series celebrating the prodigious talent of the current members of Radio 3's young artist programme. Today Alexander Gadjiev, a multiple prize winner at last year's Warsaw Chopin Competition, explores the Romantic sonorities of the Pleyel piano which Chopin brought with him to England in 1848. Also today, viola player Timothy Ridout plays Stravinsky's suite based on his ballet Pulcinella, a work populated by the figures of the commedia dell'arte, in a performance given at the Aldeburgh Festival. And to end this summer series, a traditional Italian love song to be sung under the balcony of the sleeping beauty.
