Ukrainian refugees

Ukrainian refugees
On the 24th of February, war started in Europe when Russia invaded Ukraine. There had been rumours but for most, it was a bolt from the blue.

It has resulted in devastation and destruction, with a number of Ukrainian cities left destroyed. It changed peoples' lives in the blink of an eye. With the conflict ongoing, uncertainty remains. Since then, millions of Ukrainians have fled their homes and become refugees seeking shelter and safety in countries across the globe.

In this special report in a new series, Annabel Maclennan meets some of those who are now living in Moldova and Scotland. In the first days of the war, between five and seven thousand crossed the border into the south of Moldova every day. The numbers are fewer at the moment, but they still come. Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe but despite this, the Goverment and the Moldovan people have responded to this crisis in order to help their neighbours in any way they can.

Around 19,000 refugees have come to Scotland since the beginning of the war through government schemes. They are now settled all over the country. ·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹ meets Ukrainians in Tain, Cardross, Edinburgh and Glasgow and finds out how they and their sponsors are getting on.

Regardless of where they are in Europe, all refugees face the same decision. Do they stay where they are or do they go back home?
