Viola player Ro铆s铆n Ni Dhuill with a playlist including Marcello鈥檚 beguiling oboe concerto and the thrilling close to one of Nielsen鈥檚 symphonies.
Ro铆s铆n Ni Dhuill takes us deep into the string section of the orchestra with personal insights into how a Mahler symphony sounds from the very middle of the concert platform, and how performing a slow movement by Tchaikovsky requires both immense concentration and group awareness.
Ro铆s铆n also remembers how her ears were 鈥榦n stalks鈥� in a German opera pit as she heard Cecilia Bartoli perform unforgettable vocal feats on the stage above her head.
And she tries to get her head (and hands) around the way that traditional Irish fiddler Kevin Burke uses his bow to create unique percussive effects.
