Egged on by the Press?
The role played by right-wing newspapers in Truss' mini-budget.
鈥淎t last! A true Tory budget鈥, proclaimed The Daily Mail after the mini-budget. Four weeks on and a very different tone: 鈥淚n office but not in power鈥, was the front page this Tuesday.
So what exactly is Liz Truss鈥 relationship with Britain鈥檚 press? Was she really 鈥渆gged on鈥 by the media, as some of her critics claim, to do what she did in the disastrous mini-budget? And if the opinion polls are to be believed 鈥 with her party apparently heading for oblivion at a general election 鈥 might traditional Tory papers switch allegiance?
