Power through with classical music
An eclectic mix of classical favourites, lesser-known gems and a few surprises, including music by Oliver Davis, Francesca Caccini, Klughardt, Chopin, Bach, Byung-Ki and Grieg.
We open today's In Tune Mixtape with Oliver Davis's evocation of autumn for soprano and strings set to the words: "Autumn celebrates the peasant, with songs and dances, The pleasure of a bountiful harvest. And fired up by Bacchus鈥檚 liquor, many end their revelry in sleep." This is followed by a ciaconna by Francesca Caccini and a wind quintet by August Klughardt. The mood gets gentler with Chopin's Andante spianato, Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" and a piece entitled Peacefully, played on a Korean gayaguem (a plucked zither) by Hwang Byung-Ki. A strident symphonic dance by Grieg rounds out the mix.
