Historical novelist Philippa Gregory picks her Tracks Of My Years all this week with Ken.
Philippa is the number one bestselling author of Tidelands and Dark Tides. She wrote her first ever novel, Wideacre, when she was completing her PhD in eighteenth-century literature. It sold worldwide and Philippa went on to write many bestselling novels, including The Other Boleyn Girl and The White Queen.
She graduated from the University of Sussex and received a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, where she is a Regent and was made Alumna of the Year in 2009 as well as honorary degrees from Teesside University and the University of Sussex.
Philippa is also a fellow of the Universities of Sussex and Cardiff and an honorary research fellow at Birkbeck University of London. In 2020 she was made a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for her services to literature and charity.
In 2016 Philippa was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Historical Fiction Award by the Historical Writers’ Association. In 2018, she was awarded an Honorary Platinum Award by Nielsen for achieving significant lifetime sales across her entire book output.
Her latest book Dawnlands is the third in the epic Fairmile series. Besides writing, her other great interest is the charity Gardens for the Gambia, which she founded nearly twenty years ago, that amongst other things has funded 200 wells in Primary Schools.
Philippa’s first two choices come from The Beatles and the Beach Boys.
Plus Ken's got the week's first edition of PopMaster and your dedications with today's love song. There's also the brand new record and album of the week. If you want to contact the show, just email - ken.bruce@bbc.co.uk
