09/12/22 - Rural mental health services, animal welfare at slaughter, salmon stunning facilities
A new report finds farmers are suffering with increased levels of stress, anxiety, depression and suicidal feelings - and rural mental health services aren't up to scratch.
The pandemic has led to increased levels of stress, anxiety, depression, and suicidal feelings among the UK鈥檚 farming population - and the Government must take urgent action to improve rural mental heath services. That鈥檚 the finding of a report out today from Cranfield, Exeter, Reading and Sheffield Universities鈥hich says some primary mental-healthcare services can be inaccessible and inadequately suited to rural areas.
We visit a stunning and slaughter facility for farmed salmon and hear calls for the technology to be used for wild caught fish too.
