Aberdeen Series (1/4)
Romanian duo cellist Andrei Ioni葲膬 and pianist Florian Mitrea perform works by MacMillan, Beethoven, Enescu and Bart贸k.
Award-winning Romanian cellist, Andrei Ioni葲膬 is joined on piano by his long-term collaborator Florian Mitrea in a concert that spans three centuries. Featuring Beethoven鈥檚 third of five cello suites which dates 1808 and is credited as one of the first sonatas for cello which puts the instrument on an equal footing with the piano. The recital begins with a short romantic work originally for viola by their countryman George Enescu written in 1906 and arranged by Andrei Ioni葲膬; this is followed by a beautifully serene meditation written by Scotland鈥檚 foremost composer James MacMillan and the concert concludes with Bart贸k's evocative Romanian Folk Dances.
