Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha sings Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Johan Dalene and friends play Mozart's Piano Quartet in G minor and Santiago Ca帽贸n-Valencia plays Ginastera.
Kate Molleson celebrates the prodigious musical talents of the current members of Radio 3's young artist scheme. In the final programme in this series, Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha brings her remarkable soprano voice to Samuel Barber's settings of poems by James Agee in which he looks back wistfully on a dreamlike childhood in the American south. As the composer said: "You see, it expresses a child鈥檚 feelings of loneliness, wonder and lack of identity in that marginal world between twilight and sleep.鈥� Also today, the Colombian cellist Santiago Ca帽贸n-Valencia plays a late work by the Argentine-born Alberto Ginastera. And this winter series concludes with Johan Dalene and Eric Lu pairing up with Eivind Ringstad and Andrei Ioni葲膬 for a memorable performance at St George's Bristol of Mozart's great Piano Quartet in G minor, K478.
