Schubert from Wigmore Hall
From the Wigmore Hall, Paul Lewis plays three Schubert Piano sonatas: No 7 in E flat, D568, the Sonata in A minor, D784, and No 17 in D, D850.
Paul Lewis plays three of Schubert鈥檚 piano sonatas spanning three periods in composer鈥檚 very short career 鈥 we meet him as an ambitious teenager aiming to emulate his great heroes Mozart and Beethoven; we meet him again just as he was struck down for the first time by the disease that was to kill him; and we meet him finally during an extremely happy period of remission from that disease, in the summer of 1825 when he felt well enough to head off on what turned out to be a holiday of a lifetime.
