After a long-overdue cataloguing of her record shelves, Jennifer Lucy Allan shares a selection of rediscovered treasures and new additions, from Throbbing Gristle to Judy Collins.
In the spirit of new year鈥檚 resolutions, Jennifer Lucy Allan spent the month of January cataloguing all her records, and this week shares a selection of forgotten treasures, unexpected oddities and recent additions from her shelves.
There鈥檒l be slices of a live performance in Derby by industrial progenitors Throbbing Gristle from 1979, and Bengali radio producer Deben Bhattacharya鈥檚 ethnographic recordings in Romania, as well as lesser known Manchester post-punk from Human Trapped Rhythms alongside a classic English folk song from Judy Collins. Plus all manner of unexpected sound effects and spoken word on wax, from heartbeats and hospitals to earthquakes and protests.
