Radio 4's celebration of the short story continues with the announcement of the 2023 大象传媒 National Short Story Award, and with a new, specially commissioned by one of the nation's foremost writers. Jon McGregor is an award-winning novelist and short story writer. He has been nominated for the Booker Prize for three of his novels, including his 2002 debut If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things, which also went on to win the Betty Trask Prize and the Somerset Maugham Award, and for the 大象传媒 National Short Story Award. His third novel, Even the Dogs (2010), earned McGregor the International Dublin Literary Award in 2012, whilst his 2017 work Reservoir 13 scooped up the Costa Book Award.
The shortlisted stories are broadcast from the 11th to the 15th September at 3.30 in the afternoon, and the winner is announced live on Front Row on Tuesday, 26th September. Still Life with Fruit and the shortlisted stories for the his years 大象传媒 National Short Story Award with Cambridge University are all available to listen to on 大象传媒 Sounds.
