Episode 1 of 5

Stacey Solomon and her crack team help parents Tom and Chloe and their two daughters transform their family home through a life-changing declutter.

The average family home contains thousands of items we don’t really need, and living in all the clutter is making us miserable. But imagine if every single item in your home were laid out before you so you could decide what to keep, and what to lose.

Tidying extraordinaire Stacey Solomon has put together a crack team of organising fanatics, who will help one family each week transform their messy home through a life-changing declutter, budget-friendly makeover and supersized spring clean!

Stacey and her gang – organiser Dilly, carpenter Rob and cleaner Iwan – challenge the Watling family to sort their life out in seven days. And in order to do this, they’ll have to embark on a mammoth declutter. They ask the family to try and let go of half their possessions, so that they can then beautifully reorganise their home.

With Stacey’s help, the family start packing all their belongings into boxes. Every single item is stripped from the family home, revealing how much space there is under all their things. We get to know the family behind the clutter – parents Tom and Chloe and their two daughters, Arya, five, and Nerea, three, who are all drowning in their possessions. Chloe puts sentimental value to almost everything in their home. Overwhelmed and embarrassed by the state of the house, Chloe also stopped her home-baking business. Tom feels unable to help, as he constantly travels abroad for work but compensates for his absence with gifts that clog up their home.

With the house all packed up, the family’s possessions are laid out in a giant warehouse like an art installation of their entire lives, including 459 books and magazines, 326 pieces of baking equipment, 39 unopened travel-sized jars of jam and 1,672 toys. With everything displayed in front of them, the family are shocked to see how much they really own and how it all fitted into their house in the first place.

There will be emotional moments as the family go through their most treasured items. In the warehouse, Chloe struggles with her emotions but eventually finds the motivation to let go of unneeded baby clothes and toys, whilst Tom realises he hasn’t sorted his paperwork in years and is equally responsible for the state of the house. The items they do decide to let go of will be put into piles to recycle, donate or sell.

Back at the house, carpenter Rob breathes new life into the family’s home, with some ingenious carpentry for Tom’s new office and the girls’ playroom. Cleaner Iwan gives the home a supersized spring clean, with lots of useful tips along the way, and Dilly meticulously sorts out their extended kitchen and resurrects the neglected bakery, ready for Chloe to open for business.

After two long days in the warehouse, it’s down to Stacey and the team to unpack their remaining, must-keep items back at the house and transform it into a stylish home before it’s revealed to the family. Have they really managed to transform this family home by decluttering, organising and upcycling alone?
