A lifelong debt - just what do we owe to our family?
What are our obligations as family members? Must a child commit to looking after parents in old age? Must a parent commit to a lifelong support package, financially, emotionally?
Larkin had some rather rude things to say about parents, accusing them of messing up the lives of their children, he used much stronger language. But what do we all owe each other as family members? Must children solemnly declare to always "honour thy father and mother?" Are parents bound to a lifetime contract of being the bond, the guarantee, of support both financial and emotional? Is there ever a time where it's ethically ok to break that chain? Presenter Audrey Carville in conversation with child psychologist Stella O'Malley, commentator Michele Marken and charity boss Agnes Lunny.
