Fiona Talkington presents one of the highlights of the 2023 Summer festival season, in which mezzo-soprano Karine Deshayes joins the Orchestre National de Montpellier and conductor by Michael Sch酶nwandt in music by Berlioz, Horneman and Schoenberg.

In this concert from the Montpelier Festival in the south of France, Karine Deshayes sings Berlioz鈥� songs of summer nights; wonders spring from Aladdin鈥檚 lamp in a work by the Danish composer Horneman, friend and contemporary of Grieg, and love鈥檚 intricacies and agonies are evoked by Schoenberg (who, at this early stage in his career, is still the heir of Brahms and Wagner) in his vast and voluptuous symphonic poem Pell茅as and M茅lisande.
