Tomasz has struggled to make a new life for his family in Northern Ireland, only to now find it all at risk. Read by Ignacy Rybarczyk.
In rural Northern Ireland, the locals are horrified to learn that Slemish mountain 鈥 traditionally believed to be where Saint Patrick was brought to tend sheep before finding God 鈥 has been sold to a Japanese theme park. However on the day Slemish is to be removed and shipped across the world the diggers are beset by protesters, politicians and the Ballymena townsfolk caught in between.
Author
Born in Ballymena, Jan Carson is a writer and community arts facilitator. Her novel 鈥楾he Fire Starters鈥 was awarded the EU Prize for Literature 2019 and the author was acclaimed as 鈥渙ne of the most exciting and original Northern Irish writers of her generation鈥 by the Sunday Times. Her most recent novel 鈥楾he Raptures鈥 was shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards Novel of the Year and the Kerry Group Novel of the Year. She has also written 鈥榃ings鈥 for 大象传媒 Three, 鈥楿nRaveling鈥 for 大象传媒 Radio 3, 鈥楾he Last Resort鈥 for 大象传媒 Radio 4 and was shortlisted for the 大象传媒 National Short Story Award 2020. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2023. Her new short story collection 鈥楺uickly, While They Still Have Horses鈥 will be published in 2024.
