When Johannes Brahms, aged 35, finished composing his Piano Concerto No. 1, it seemed to confirm the prophetic words of his mentor and friend Robert Schumann, who had described him as 鈥渁 darling of the muses鈥. Schumann had predicted that Brahms鈥檚 mastery of music would not develop gradually, but rather would appear suddenly, shining in all its glory. In the second half of the concert, the Czech Philharmonic Choir, Brno joins the orchestra for Dvo艡谩k's Te Deum, op. 103. Dvo艡谩k鈥檚 faith was colored by his love of nature, and the music he wrote for his Te Deum has an earthiness not usually found in the ethereal world of sacred music.
