Diamond in the Rough

An inherited coin collection potentially worth a fortune, and the discovery of a huge diamond. But will this treasure trove raise enough at auction to fund a major garden makeover?

Peter and Lisa sold their home to move in with Peter’s widowed mum to support her in old age. However, when she sadly passed just five months later, the couple were left with two generations of belongings in one cramped house. They’ve decided now’s the time to sell their inherited items, and have big plans for the money raised at auction.

Any cash made will be used to renovate their garden, including a new patio, summer house, and a space for the entire family to come together. They hope Peter’s parents’ collection of coins, records and old phones will be able to fund this huge garden makeover.

Laying forgotten in one wardrobe is a briefcase containing a coin collection amassed over 70 years by Peter’s father. After further investigation, auctioneer Christina Trevanion finds a rare, pure gold £2 coin amongst the haul, which is sure to excite bidders come sale day. Also uncovered is Peter’s mum’s jewellery and a ring with a huge stone that Christina thinks might be a diamond. If so, it could make a small fortune at auction.

In the garden shed, restoration expert Robin Johnson finds an attractive but badly damaged drinks cabinet hiding behind the lawnmower – is it beyond repair? Robin also uncovers a motorbike under a tarpaulin, one that owner Peter didn’t know was in his garden. It’s a race to get it back on two wheels before auction day.

The pressure is on auctioneer Christina when she takes to the rostrum. Can she sell the items Robin has restored to make enough money for the garden renovation, and will the Travelling Auctioneers be invited back to Peter and Lisa’s house for a celebratory barbecue feast?
