Jeff Goldblum explores the connections between jazz and pop music and how they've worked together to create stand out hits, from the Beatles to Miles Davis and Lady Gaga.
From the roots of Jazz as 1930s 鈥榟ot鈥� dance music, through its influence on popular hits by the Beatles and Stevie Wonder, to the uniquely British Acid Jazz scene that broke into the 1990s musical mainstream, this third episode in The Power of Jazz series shows how Jazz laid the foundation stone for the evolution of pop music. We hear raw jazz sampled in hits by Deee-Lite and Fat Boy Slim, Emeli Sande shares how her singing style was shaped by listening to Nina Simone, and Corinne Bailey Rae describes how the freedom of jazz inspired her own music. Finally, we hear how the worlds of jazz and pop have worked together to create stand out hits by Michael Jackson, the Mamas and Papas and Sam Smith. Plus contributions and insights from broadcasters Tina Edwards and Kevin Le Gendre.
