Relive the best of the action from day two, in which Britain’s Adam Peaty attempted a rare three-peat in the pool as 13 Olympic champions were crowned across eight sports.

Peaty said he was happy to be the underdog in the 100m breaststroke, which he won at the previous two Olympics during a lengthy period of dominance since punctured by injury, alcoholism and depression. Now reborn and returning to his best, he says a sense of peace makes him a ‘dangerous’ opponent.

France’s face of the games, Leon Marchand, was also looking for glory in the pool in the men’s 400m individual medley, while other British athletes were targeting medals in archery, mountain biking, canoe slalom and judo.
