Sam and Tracy Amin attend a difficult meeting with the principal of their daughter Layla鈥檚 school. Outside, Tracy is having a huge rant at her wastrel husband when she is tragically knocked down by an ice cream van. Despite some initial mixed messages, Sam somehow finds the strength to tell their three daughters that their mother is dead.

Sam鈥檚 narcissistic half-brother Zein turns up at the wake and embarrassingly brings a stewardess he pulled on the flight over from London. Three months on and facing a life without the lynchpin of their family, it鈥檚 time for Sam to step up and be both father and mother to his girls. Problem is, he鈥檚 pretty useless at it and is struggling to cope.
