Competitive sheep shearing has all the rivalry, passion and excitement of any other sport. The top shearers are treated like rockstars in the fast, hot and sweaty world of shearing. They鈥檙e not just agricultural contractors, they are athletes, and heroes within their communities.
For two days each summer, the small town of Corwen in north east Wales is the capital of the competitive sheep-shearing world. Cneifio Corwen Shears, held on the Rhug Estate, was established in 1989 and is an event organised by members of the local community. Thousands of people converge on the site to enjoy the fast and furious spectacle of hundreds of sheep and lambs being sheared by competitors who have travelled here from as far as Australia and New Zealand.
