Tunes, chat and Ceefax celebration

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie present a feast of great music and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Ceefax service with a selection of related tunes and chat.

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie present a feast of great music and chat for weekend breakfast.

Today, they mark 50 years since the ´óÏó´«Ã½ launched 'Ceefax' - the first teletext facility in the world.

Developed by ´óÏó´«Ã½ engineers, Ceefax was launched in September 1974 and allowed TV viewers to see text on their TV screens at the touch of a button! It hosted news and sport coverage, weather, music reviews, travel information, jokes and even an alarm clock. At its height, as many as 600 pages were available, and it eventually had 22 million weekly users. As Ceefax was part of the analogue television signal, it was discontinued when the network became digital-only in 2012, but was followed by services like the Red Button.

To celebrate the anniversary, Mark and Stuart play some Ceefax-related tunes and hear listeners memories.

Also on the show... a host of quality radio items including 'The Chain' - our world-famous list of over 8000 interconnected songs.

There’s also the chance to take part in ‘Tea Time Theme Time’, guessing the link between three top tunes.

Plus a finely balanced blend of new and old music, setting you up for a Sunday.
