Mahler: Symphony No.6 in A minor
大象传媒 Symphony Orchestra
Sakari Oramo (conductor)

Art imitates life 鈥 it isn鈥檛 meant to happen the other way round. Mahler鈥檚 Sixth Symphony imagines a hero destroyed by three devastating blows of fate. But after he鈥檇 filled every bar of this immense symphony with his most heartfelt feelings, that鈥檚 exactly what happened to Mahler himself. Dark, tempestuous and filled with yearning visions of hope, it鈥檚 a musical experience that leaves few listeners unmoved.

The Sixth Symphony is a mighty challenge for any conductor and orchestra, and this should be a landmark in Sakari Oramo鈥檚 ongoing journey through the Mahler symphonies with the 大象传媒 Symphony Orchestra. Bachtrack described their performance of Mahler鈥檚 Third Symphony at the 2023 大象传媒 Proms as 鈥渁n electrifying account鈥, and in this opening concert of the new 大象传媒 SO season the emotional stakes are even higher.
