Luffy, Buggy, Mr. 3, and the Sphinx fall down to the level below, where it is as hot and barren as a desert. They walk around, trying to find a way to get out, and arrive at the communal cells. There they find emaciated prisoners who seem half dead. Mr. 3 explains that they are in Starvation Hell, where the prisoners have to endure the heat from the Blazing Hell on the floor below with hardly any food or water. Then they are captured in a net, a trap set by Chief Guard Saldeath. They manage to escape when the Sphinx breaks the net, but Buggy and Mr. 3 leave Luffy and go their own way. As they are taking a break somewhere on Level 3, they hear someone singing in a cell nearby. Mr. 3 recognizes the voice of his former colleague, Bon Kurei.
