Boxing Game

Episode 16 of 30

Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim to get the best price for their items, including a boxing game, dressing table, coffee table, French lamp and a WWII rattle.

Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room's home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.

First through the doors is boxing enthusiast Anthony. He’s a got a pair of retro toys he’s hoping the dealers will put up a fight for. But which of them will come out triumphant to claim Anthony’s mid-century boxing game?

Next, it’s Michelle with mum Josephine – they’re keen upcyclers but just couldn’t bring themselves to turn the paintbrush to the dressing table they’ve delivered to the room. The beautiful teak furniture should raise a smile amongst the dealers, but can any of them reach Simon’s expert valuation?

Third into Edinburgh HQ is Kulwant. He’s selling an art deco walnut coffee table on behalf of a friend. Some scrupulous detective work by the dealers could put the valuation price in jeopardy.

Next, we welcome Abby with a French lamp that’s right up Nigel’s street. With no maker to pin it to, the dealers are left scratching their heads, but a few of them are taken with the design. Will any of them stretch to Simon’s estimate for this one-off piece?

Finally, it’s Jane and her lifelong football fan husband John, with a fascinating piece of World War II history. Bought as what they thought was a piece of football memorabilia, the rattle would in fact have given early warnings for gas attacks. Jane and John are hoping the dealers will be noised up by the piece and help to raise as much money as possible for a worthwhile cause.

The dealers today are Ian, Estelle, Moses, Lucy and Glasgow-based dealer Mac along with Jacqui, Adi, Jo and James.
