Three Rhinemaidens are tasked with protecting some magic gold - it can be made into a ring which gives the owner power to rule the world - if they first renounce love. When the lustful dwarf Alberich is shunned by the Rhinemaidens, he decides to curse love and steal the gold, setting in motion a chain of events which culminates in the downfall of the gods. An all-star cast is led by Michael Volle as Wotan, the ruler of the gods, with Jamie Barton and Christiane Karg as his wife and sister-in-law Fricka and Freia. Yannick N茅zet-S茅guin conducts the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
