Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie present a feast of great music and chat for weekend breakfast.
Today they mark the 55th anniversary of cult children's TV show 'The Clangers'. The stop-motion animated series featuring mice-like figures was first broadcast on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ on 16th November 1969. The show was created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin who went on to make Bagpuss after The Clangers ended in 1972. The Clangers returned in 2015, with new episodes made for Cbeebies by a team including Oliver Postgate’s son, Daniel, as well as Peter Firmin.
Mark and Stuart celebrate the anniversary with some related tunes, chat and sound fx! They also hear from Hifi Sean AKA Sean Dickson of indie-rock band The Soup Dragons, who named the group after one of The Clangers' famous characters.
Also on the show... a host of quality radio items including 'The Chain' - our world-famous list of over 8000 interconnected songs.
There’s also the chance to take part in ‘Tea Time Theme Time’, guessing the link between three top tunes.
Plus a finely balanced blend of new and old music, setting you up for a Sunday.
