Real-life stories behind the headlines from 大象传媒 News.
In 2024, a 大象传媒 investigation revealed the stories of those who had lost their life savings, inheritance and pensions when their holiday homes lost value.
In Joanne Horner-Bloomfield's case, she used 拢29,995 from the sale of her late mother's house to buy a caravan in 2022, spending an additional 拢7,500 for a decking and two storage sheds. After the annual pitch fees increased each year, she realised she could not afford to keep the caravan, and after deciding to sell it, she says the park told her that her caravan would only fetch about 拢5,000 on the open market.
Now, more than a thousand owners across the UK are launching legal action against the holiday parks that sold the caravans. In this episode of 5 Minutes On, Lucy Parry from the 大象传媒 Investigations team hears from some of those seeking compensation.
