Internationally acclaimed pianist, Alice Sara Ott, performs live

Tom Service talks to German-Japanese pianist, Alice Sara Ott.

Described by the New York Times as "a force for change in classical music", pianist Alice Sara Ott talks to Tom Service about her new album of nocturnes by the Irish-born composer John Field. Alice performs in the studio and discusses the unique atmosphere of Field's music and how it connects with works by Beethoven and Mozart.

Ahead of its UK premiere, composer James MacMillan talks to Tom about his new setting of Hildegard of Bingen鈥檚 morality play, Ordo Virtutum. We also hear from composers Laura Cannell and Heloise Werner, and guitartist Sean Shibe, about what Hildegard means to them and why her music resonates, nearly a thousand years after it was written.

And we launch the latest piece for 大象传媒 Radio 3鈥檚 25 for 25: Sounds of the Century 鈥 a series of brand new commissions celebrating and commemorating some of the biggest events of the 21st century so far. This week, Orcadian composer Erland Cooper reflects on the natural world in the 21st century and pays tribute to David Attenborough, whose landmark series Planet Earth and Life of Mammals brought it to record numbers of viewers in the early 2000s. Erland joins Tom in the studio to talk about his new piece.
