Storm 脡owyn

Storm 脡owyn was one of the most powerful windstorms to hit Scotland in a decade. Judith Ralston and the 大象传媒 Scotland Weather team look back at the impact of the storm.

Storm 脡owyn was one of the most powerful windstorms to hit Scotland in a decade. Parts of the country saw wind speeds of up to 100mph. Buildings were damaged; schools closed; and transport disrupted. Judith Ralston and the 大象传媒 Scotland Weather team look back at the impact the storm had across the country. A rare red weather warning, representing a danger to life, was issued by the Met Office covering Scotland鈥檚 two largest cities, and impacting nearly three million people along the central belt and south of the country. Four-hundred-year-old trees were damaged, roofs ripped off buildings, and shops and businesses forced to close. Scotland is no stranger to winter storms, but the violent wind speeds from Storm 脡owyn across central Scotland were exceptional and disruptive. This programme includes dramatic footage as the storm hit, and shows the damage caused to trees, buildings, and houses all across the country. We hear from the experts on what caused the storm to form and why it had such an impact when it reached the UK. We also speak to a climate expert to explain whether or not climate change played a role in the direction and intensity of the wind, rain and snow that battered Scotland across the day.
