Jen暖fa is secretly pregnant by her alcohol-loving lover, but her stepmother is determined not to let Jen暖fa make the same mistakes she did, whatever the cost. Jan谩膷ek brings his story vividly to life in a score infused with drama, lyricism and the traditional folk melodies of his native Moravia. Jakub Hr暖拧a, the Royal Opera鈥檚 Music Director-designate, conducts a stand-out cast including Corinne Winters as Jen暖fa, and Karita Mattila her complex stepmother Kostelni膷ka.

Presented by Andrew McGregor in conversation with Jan谩膷ek expert Nigel Simeone.
